DAL DHUNGLU

Dal Dhunglu is a cuisine of Uttarakhand .It is a favorite dish often made during picnics by the children.The dal made is a mixture of many pulses (moong , arhar, rajma, etc.) Dhunglu is cooked on stone. It is a very thick bread (roti), cooked over hot stones. In hills it is usual that children go to graze their livestock. The afternoon time is a boring time of the day. So, at that time, children do small picnics. They mix all the pulses to make the dal.One would then prepare the dough for Dhunglu. Then it is made and served hot.

AIPAN

 Aipan is a traditional folk art specifically made by women of Uttarakhand. This art is done on floor over brick red background with white paste made out of rice flour. The typical art is done on all special occasions and household ceremonies and rituals. It is believed that these motifs evoke divine power which brings good fortune and wards off evil. Uttarakhand Aipan painting has its unique identity which is always done on the empty walls and on the ground which is a symbol of fortune and fertility. The art form is used to decorate floors and walls at the Puja room (place of worship) and entrance of homes and practiced by many other communities of different region. It is mainly done by the Kumauni ladies in various occasions like in marriages, pujas, etc.The Kumauni girls are taught to make aipan, sing songs and dance, etc. The Aipan (Alpana) is a  popular art firm of Kumaon,and walls, papers and pieces of clothes are decorated by the drawings of different geometric and other figures
